Bula is a Fiji term analogous to “aloha” in Hawaiian meaning both hello and goodbye. It also means “life” and carries with it the connotation that life is good. I’m not from Fiji. I’ve never been to Fiji, but I’d love to visit it someday. Fact is, I came across this word when I was in my 20s and fell in love with it so I began to use it as a salutation on internal memos to my staff. I had to explain it the first time I used it, but once was enough. It’s a memorable word.

I’m an operator, a practitioner. I’m not a pundit. As for being a thought leader, I am. I lead my own thoughts, but you’re in charge of your own. I’ve got my hands full.
The work isn’t about telling you what to do, or what you should do. It’s about helping you achieve what you most want. Mostly, it’s about helping you figure out what you most want and how to move forward toward your goals. It’s about helping clients have high impact influence because that’s where we’re all able to make a difference in serving others.
The bottom line is I don’t just talk about leadership and higher human performance, I pursue it. And I’m determined to help others figure out how to best pursue it, too.

Coaching typically is a 6 to 12-month process. Sometimes it’s a monthly retainer that can last for years. Every situation is unique and I’m intent on meeting clients where they are. My coaching process is unique because it’s not one-size-fits-all. I can’t tell you that you’ll start with step 1 and follow until you reach step 24, after which you’ll have learned some specific skills and be presented with a certificate. That’s formulaic and terrific if the formula fits your specific situation. But usually, it doesn’t, which is why many coaching programs don’t make any meaningful difference. Knowing isn’t doing. My work focuses on helping clients learn new skills by first figuring things out so they can see clearly, then helping them implement those skills in their daily leadership. The power is in the doing!

The progression is really more like an endless loop. Some would call it a reinforcing cycle or loop. Most recently, thanks to my podcasting partner, Lisa Norris, we’ve begun to view these as ingredients in a recipe! Whatever label you give it, it’s vital to higher leadership performance.
