Happy Thanksgiving To All Of You From Both Of Us
When I started this podcast, I had no idea I’d mostly serve city government leaders some years later. I’m a business guy and an operator. However, thanks to a single opportunity to serve a local city manager and her leadership team, I was “at home” with this crowd. Another city manager engaged me. And another. Before long, I began to lean exclusively toward serving this space.
Then, a few years ago, I was commissioned to serve as an HR Director, some of my favorite people because they touch every employee in every organization with a focus on PEOPLE. Her name was Lisa Norris. After the engagement, we remained friends (which happens more often than not with my clients), and I told her I was planning to push all my chips into the middle of the table to serve city managers and their leadership teams. I asked her to join me in the effort to rebrand this podcast into Grow Great, a city government leadership podcast. Somewhere along the way, she enjoyed a promotion to CMO, becoming a Managing Director.
Now that we’ve experienced a couple of Thanksgiving Days as co-hosts, I retell this story because she’s one of the major things (people) for whom I’m thankful. Our work has been some of my most rewarding (and I humbly confess, my best).
