Special Post-Thanksgiving Day Episode: How To Figure Things Out Like A 5-Year-Old (Taking Action)

Max & Jake, this summer prior to many dives into the pool

NOTE: Today’s show was originally recorded as a video, but I encountered horrible sync issues. No matter, I look better in audio anyway. I’m including the video, but I’ll warn you – it will drive you crazy!

I don’t know if there’s any statistical accuracy to it or not, but I recently heard an Internet marketer claim that about 2% of the buyers of info products (i.e. Internet marketing training courses) actually take any action based on the course.

Think of it.

If we all took action on the stuff we’re reading, watching, and listening to – well, human productivity would sky-rocket. The world wouldn’t know what to do with itself.

Which may explain why most people don’t achieve more success. It also explains the power of Mark Amtower‘s message (both a speech and a little book about the speech, both bearing the same name), “Why epiphanies never occur to couch potatoes.”

Reading, watching and listening are easy. Passive.

Getting up off the couch. Doing something meaningful. Active.

And obviously, for many, quite difficult.

Today is the day after Thanksgiving here in the U.S. It’s a day full of action, mostly centered around crazed crowds falling for the lure of false bargains. I was wondering yesterday…how much must a person devalue their time to spend 2 days and 2 nights in the parking lot of a Best Buy to purchase a TV for $186? You do the math.

This appeared on Facebook yesterday afternoon. I thought it was appropriate…and correct. Yes, I “liked” it.

Stuff. Things. Content. Instruction.

Nothing inherently wrong with any of them. But without action, none of them will help you figure things out, or get things done!

It’s time to incorporate a new philosophy into life. Every 5-year-old already knows this. And does it.

When all is said and done, more is done than said.

Your Business Model: 3 Pillars Of Successful Business Building

The books mentioned in today’s show:

Business Model YOU: A One-Page Method For Reinventing Your Career

The 4-Hour Chef

The three ingredients mentioned are mandatory for me. I’m uninterested in interacting with, being around, or being involved with any business that isn’t going to make these three pillars the foundation of their enterprise.

I also give you a perfect illustration of the power of word-of-mouth. Discount Tire is where I buy tires. And no, I didn’t get any compensation of any kind. Oh, I’d happily accept a gift, bribe or payment…but so far, that hasn’t happened. Still, I’m willing to tell you how I feel about them.

Making Money From Your Passion

The world won’t always recognize your talent or passion

Your passion may not be worth the necessary value/money exchange required to build a viable business. Get busy finding something else you care about that others care about, need, want and are willing to buy. Not every passion needs the fuel of money, but business-based passions can only thrive when they serve a market willing to pay.

The Leaves Are Changing, So Why Shouldn’t You?

It’s time to change and make the course of your life more scenic

You should. You absolutely should.

It’s there. In the back of your mind.

That idea. That urge. That gnawing feeling.

Answer the call. Right now.

Turn your idea into action. So what if it’s not the perfect? It doesn’t even matter if it works out very well or not…as long as you’re not betting the farm.

It’s Fall. Time to change colors. Time to leave the comfort of the past and embrace that chill of uncomfortableness.

Here’s the challenge. There are 3 weeks left in November. Why not use the next 3 weeks (you’ve heard it takes 21 days to form a new habit…let’s see if that’s for real) to do something extraordinarily different.

What would happen if – for the next 3 weeks – you did things just the opposite of what you’ve been doing? If what you’ve been doing is working out with awesome success, forget this challenge. Keep the momentum going. Oh, that’s not happening for you? Then, what have you got to lose?

Me? I’m going to make some major changes in the next 3 weeks. I recorded it in this week’s video to the folks Inside The Yellow Studio.

What are you going to do with the rest of November?

Episode 148 – Lessons From The TV Show, The Voice

NBC’s hit show, The Voice

Four celebrity singers. Each with his own team of 6 singers. Now, they’ll compete for top honors on NBC’s hit TV show, The Voice.

During Tuesday night’s show the competition completed the “Battle Round” or “KnockOut Round.” Each coach pits two team members against each other. The coach decides a winner, who will advance, leaving the loser to go home.

Four lessons emerged from these battle rounds. I’ve watched all four teams go through this round and every single time these elements enter into the equation to determine the winner — and the loser!

We can apply these same four things to our business building. I’ll give you one hint: song selection is critical.

P.S. Subscribe to the podcast at iTunes and while you’re at it, leave me a 5-star review. It’ll help other people find the podcast. Thank you!
